Bihu celebrated with enthusiasm

‘Culture is the mirror of our society’

From a Correspondent

ITANAGAR, May 24: Political boundary and petty differences cannot separate minds and hearts as has been proved by the enthusiastic Bihu celebration here today, said Itanagar municipality chief councillor Higio Aruni.

“The inter-state boundary difference is a political issue which should be left for the political leaders to resolve without affecting our age-old relations,” she said to the applause of the gathering.

The age-old relation between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam is well known. It has existed since even before the NEFA days, which has been strengthened further by matrimonial ties, she said while speaking as chief guest of the celebration.

“No force for reason can separate the people of the two neighbouring states,” she said emphatically.

Giving a clarion call for clean and green capital, she sought the support of all sections to achieve the goal.

The Assamese deserve appreciation for zealously guarding their rich culture, she said, adding that the Arunachalees are also protecting their culture.

“Culture is the mirror of our society. It brings togetherness, unity and communal harmony. But the relation between the peoples of both states are age-old,” said Itanagar councillor Taba Yall Nabam.

She assured the Assamese community, particularly RRBC president Api Nima Dutta and general secretary Niranjan Konwar, all possible support to coexist with their Arunachalee brethren peacefully.

People of all communities should take part in such festivals to send a message to the rest of nation – “We are one,” said Nabam, melody queen of the state, who thrilled the gathering with her melodious Assamese and Nyishi songs.

The sound of pepas, drums, tals and flutes punctuated by traditional numbers rent the air as the Bihu spirit gripped the state capital with the Rajdhani Rongali Bihu Committee  (RRBC) celebrating the national festival of Assam. Young damsels of Narayanpur in their best attire danced to the song, ‘Naach nachani nach, kokal bhangi bhangi naach’ (Dance dancers dance, twisting your waists), that echoed in the air as the audience cheered.  It was a combination of taal, gaan and laya, the gist of Bihu dance.

Agricultural and pisicuture practices are livelihood means which the Bodo troupe reflected through dance besides the drummers from North Lakhimpur who cast magic spell.
